Kaki Studio - A studio visit
In the past I was lucky to have visited a few wonderful artists and took photos in their creative environment, sometimes I was even able to watch them in the process of making art. During our trip to Australia a few weeks back we visited our dear and generous friends Rachel and Nathan who are running Kaki Studio in Perth.
Both have encountered the potter craftsmanship completely on their own terms besides their regular day-to-day jobs and I am amazed how far they have already come by just trying out new things, teaching themselves, finding inspiration and collaborating with each other. I loved seeing how each of them takes their space when they create together. When I took the photos Nathan was throwing bowls and cups but Rachel had just told me about the process of their wonderful flower disk she mainly makes and how they are both finishing objects together, such as their tea cups.
Just before the holidays they ran a project called Side by Side in their living room, showcasing their own and befriended crafters work to the (local) community. I wish we could have already been there to see all the wonderful work. I am sure they will run it again as they reported it was a great success also to get the community together and show the great craft people are doing in and around Perth.
Thanks Rachel and Nathan for letting me take a few snaps in your studio, needless to say their entire place is marvellous and full of collected wonderful items.
Thanks for still stopping by this place
